Terms of use
Version in force on 20 October 2026
1. Purpose
These terms of use (the “Terms”) govern access to and use of Chess History (the “Service”), a chess-learning web app published by FRAMYIA, SAS (French simplified joint-stock company, single shareholder), share capital of €500, Paris Trade and Companies Register 984 789 412, registered office 229 rue Saint-Honoré, 75001 Paris, France (“we”). Using the Service means you accept these Terms. Purchases are also governed by the terms of sale.
2. Definitions
- User: anyone using the Service, with or without an account.
- Account: the personal space created with an email address, used to save progress and buy content.
- Free content: the interactive stories and other content available without payment, marked as such.
- Premium content: interactive stories and other content reserved for holders of a paid offer.
3. Access
Free content is available without an account. Progress is then stored in your browser’s local storage and may be lost if you clear your browser data or change device. Creating an Account is free: you sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address, or with Google. An Account is also created when you buy the Pass without being signed in, with the email address entered at payment. The Service runs in a recent web browser with an internet connection. We do our best to keep it available but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access (maintenance, updates, incidents, including at our providers).
4. Minors
The Service is open to all ages. A child under fifteen may only create an Account with the consent of a parent or guardian. Purchases must be made by an adult or with the authorisation of a parent or guardian, who is then responsible for them.
5. Account
You are responsible for the use of your Account and for keeping access to your mailbox secure. Accounts are personal. You can delete your Account at any time from the “My account” page; this erases your progress from our servers as described in the privacy policy.
6. Acceptable use
The Service is for personal, non-commercial use. In particular, you must not bypass the measures that reserve Premium content to paying users, share access to a paid Account, extract or redistribute content (texts, voices, music, animations), including by automated means, or disrupt the Service.
7. Intellectual property
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service. All elements of the Service remain our property or that of their owners, except historical chess games and their moves (public domain).
8. Historical and educational content
The games shown are real and checked move by move. The stories are adaptations; when an anecdote is a legend or an uncertain attribution, we say so. The Service is educational and for entertainment.
Players’ ratings. At the end of a story, players may rate it from 1 to 5 stars. Ratings are anonymous and are not checked against a purchase: we count one rating per browser and story, only from visits that finished that story, and show the average of all of them, without removing or sorting out any, once there are at least 30. Ratings are never paid for or rewarded.
9. Liability
We provide the Service with reasonable care. We are not liable for force majeure, acts of third parties or misuse of the Service. Nothing here limits your statutory rights as a consumer, including the legal guarantee of conformity for digital content described in the terms of sale.
10. Personal data
See the privacy policy and the cookies page.
11. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your Account at any time. In case of serious breach of these Terms, we may suspend or close the Account after a formal notice left unanswered for 15 days, except in urgent cases (fraud, security). Amounts already paid are then governed by the terms of sale.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms. The applicable version is the one published on this page, with its date. Account holders are notified by email of any material change at least 30 days before it applies.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by French law, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence. If you have a problem, email [email protected]. Disputes are brought before the competent courts under ordinary rules; consumers may in particular bring proceedings in the courts of the place where they lived when the contract was concluded.
